Supreme Court rules in favour of Zanetor Rawlings

The Supreme Court has cleared Dr Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings to contest as the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency in Accra.

The five member panel of judges gave the order in it’s interpretation of Article 94 clause one A of the Constitution which has been in contention.

The 4:1 majority decision by the court held that the said constitutional provision becomes operational when the Electoral Commission opens nominations for Parliamentary aspirants in the various Constituencies.

The current MP for the area, Nii Armah Ashitey was challenging the eligibility of Dr Zanetor Rawlings to contest for a Parliamentary seat.

He claimed that at the time she contested and won the primaries, she was not a registered voter.
