STRANEK calls for probe after video of police assault leaked

Policy think tank, Strategic Network Thinkers (STRANEK) has condemned the attack on ASP Nankan Bruce by some persons suspected to be thugs with the invisible forces. A video of the attack went viral this week with the heavily built men attacking the police officer at the seat of government, Flagstaff House.

Sources say the assault took place on January 9 – the first day President Akufo-Addo reported to work.

The officer, who is believed to be part of the guards at the Flagstaff House during the John Mahama administration, was seen moving out of the premises of the presidency, but was stopped by an armed military officer and was subsequently brutalized and forced out of the car, despite attempts by senior police officers to restore order. In a statement issued by STRANEK, they said, ‘’it is a hogwash for anybody to attack a policeman or anybody working with the security agencies because the right channels are available for those who have grave concerns about the conduct of a policeman or any security agent.’’ The statement further described the attack as unacceptable saying, ‘’for this matter, taking the law into your own hands to assault policeman is totally unacceptable and culprits must face the full rigors of the law. Indeed, nobody is above the law.’’ The statement added, ‘’with fostering security of all Ghanaians as one of our mission, we call for proper investigations to on to tell exactly the cause of the assault and punishment of the invisible forces for such a deviant behavior.’’ Below is the full statement *WE CONDEMN THE ASSAULT OF THE POLICEMAN-STRANEK* There has been a video that has gone viral on the assault of a policeman called ASP Nii Nankan Bruce by thugs viz. Invisible Forces on the 9th of January, 2017.

We at Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) condemn the assault of the policeman who is an epitome of peace, order and security. It is a hogwash for anybody to attack a policeman or anybody working with the security agencies because the right channels are available for those who have grave concerns about the conduct of a policeman or any security agent. For that matter, taking the law into your own hands to assault a policeman is totally unacceptable and culprits must face the full rigors of law.

Indeed, nobody is above the law. With fostering security of all Ghanaians as one of our mission, we call for proper investigations to go on to tell exactly the cause of the assault and the punishment of the invisible forces for such a deviant behaviour.

We hope steps will be expedited to get to a logical conclusion on this matter and as well serve as a deterrent to others.

We remain involved in building our motherland Ghana. Signed. Nii Tettey Tetteh Executive Director Charles Kwadade Deputy Executive Director
