SOLDIERS ANGRY WITH AKUFO-ADDO

…for failing to pay their 11% promised salary increment

Intel picked up by the Daily Post reveals it’s not only soldiers returning home after their one year peacekeeping duty in Lebanon who are angry with President Akufo Addo for paying them a paltry $1,000 before they go on their compulsory leave; soldiers in general throughout the country are angry with him for failing to pay them the salary increment he promised.
In July this year, President Akufo Addo, addressing soldiers at Burma Camp promised all soldiers in the country a salary increment of 11% starting in September this year.
At the end of September (last month), soldiers throughout the country dashed to their banks to collect their salaries, expecting it to have increased by 11% as the President promised. However, it was a no show as they found their salary had not been increased by even 1%. This has angered most of them.
“Massa, the President deceived us! Why the promise if you do not have any intention to honour it?”, an angry soldier who spoke to the Daily Post yesterday asked.
In the run-ups to the 2016 elections, then Candidate Akufo Addo made all kinds of audacious promises to the men and women of the Ghana Armed Forces in a desperate bid to win their votes. As a result, when an intention then President Mahama had to carry out for the good of the soldiers was leaked to him, he got Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, then Ranking Member on the Defence Committee of parliament to rush to announce it as one of the plans of Akufo-Addo for soldiers if voted into office. Now in power, President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government have failed to honour their promises with claims there is no money.
“ If the President will not honour his promise, let him come back to the Burma Camp and tell us to our face that he made a mistake so cannot honour that promise because there is no money”, another angry soldier who also spoke to this paper, said.
