A company belonging to the wife of Sammy Awuku, ‘APRIL JUNE LIMITED, has been awarded multiple lucrative tenders worth millions of dollars. Other bidders have raised questions about the tender, implying that the husband’s relationship with the President and position in the party earned her the contracts.
APRIL.JUNE LIMITED is the only company given all the cleaning contracts right from the Jubilee house to Exim Bank to Cocobod, NHIS, Freezones Board and many other state offices. Justifying the choice of APRIL JUNE LIMITED, a procurement officer who works at the Jubilee House said that the company met all the necessary requirements and had a track record of cleaning and decorating offices. Our checks however proved otherwise. Our checks revealed that the company was registered recently. It means that the lucrative contract was given to Mrs. Awuku without following proper tender process. This is how the Akufo-Addo government operates, giving its tenders to friends, party members and cronies. If you are not a friend to the President, a member of the Npp or friend to party stalwarts you won’t get a tender.
President Akufo Addo and his Npp partisans during the 2016 campaign lambasted the Mahama administration for allegedly turning its cabinet meetings into contract bonanza sessions. The President himself, then candidate Akufo Addo, had to retract similar allegation he made against Madam Lordina Mahama after he has been alerted of the recklessness of his allegation. The current deputy speaker of parliament, Hon Osei Wusu alleged that the former first lady was putting up a warehouse inside the Flagstaff House to facilitate her private businesses deals. The second deputy speaker is yet to provide evidence to support that reckless allegation.
Critically minded Ghanaians have also observed the quick pace with which Akufo Addo and other officials of the party including the Finance Minister, the Senior Minister appointed their children, friends, cronies etc to handle strategic juicy positions including boards of state agencies etc.
