The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini has raised security concerns regarding government’s inability to bring to book assailants who attacked a police officer at the flagstaff house in January.
Alhaji Suhuyini said he believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s sluggish way of handling the issue smacks of a deliberate attempt to protect their own hence the need for the citizenry to rise up and ensure that justice is served for the victim.
“I believe that it is not because they (government) are not serious or they intend to arrest these people, I think that it is just deliberate to protect their own as they’ve always done and it is unacceptable and we must all rise up and ensure that we get justice for Nanka Bruce,” he told Henry Agbai on Radio Gold’s morning show the Power Drive, Friday.
His comment comes at the back of the Defence Minister, Ambrose Dery’s inability to inform parliament on how the attackers gained access to the seat of government.
The Accra Circuit Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of two persons, including an ex-police officer who assaulted a senior police officer at the Flagstaff House in January.
An ex-officer, Mumuni Jabel and one Abu, who are said to be members of pro-NPP vigilante group, Invincible Forces, were caught on tape assaulting ASP Bruce Nanka at the Presidency in a video that went viral on social media.
The CCTV footage at the seat of government on January 9, 2017 – President Akufo-Addo’s first day in office – showed members of the group chasing ASP Bruce as he drove out of the Flagstaff House.
They succeeded in accosting ASP Nanka and attempted to seize his vehicle, but the intervention of other security personnel saved the situation.
Commenting on this matter on the Gold Power Drive Friday, Alhassan Suhuyini who was once the host of the programme said; “three months after the incident and the culprits have not still been traced clearly means that our security is endangered.”
He further added that comments by the Deputy Minister Nominee for Defense on the claim of assault on a journalist clearly exhibits the mindset of the present government which is why it’s difficult to find the perpetrators of the attack meted out on Nanka Bruce.
