Return diplomatic passports- Govt to Mahama’s appointees

Government is set to revoke the diplomatic passports of all appointees of the former President John Mahama’s administration.

A formal notification was earlier issued by government directing the affected persons to hand over any such passports in their possession.

The directive which comes after the MPs visa fraud scandal also affects former Members of Parliament (MPs).

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey though “a good number” of the affected persons have complied and returned their diplomatic passports, there were some who were yet to do same.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM on Wednesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs warned that the next line of action would be to void the yet to be returned passports and render them unusable by the holders.

“We’ve signalled them that very soon they will be put on the ‘stop list’ if they failed to return their passports”, she warned.

She advised those still carrying such passports to return them in order to avoid any embarrassments during their travels.
