President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged prospective voters to “go out and register” for their first voter’s ID card ahead of the 2016 general elections.
The Electoral Commission has started registering first time voters in a limited registration exercise which is expected to end on May 8, 2016. It is an opportunity for people who have turned 18 to get their names on the electoral roll.
In a Facebook video, President Mahama said the exercise is an opportunity for young ones to “decide the future” of Ghana.
“From the moment you acquire your first voter’s ID card you would have received the power to decide on the future of our country. It will also empower you to participate in deciding how our democracy evolves over the next several years,” Mahama said in the video.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com
He added: “Your vote will be a great instrument in your hands and it will allow you to participate in changing the lives of our people and transforming our nation. If you want mother Ghana to continue on its path for sustainable democracy, modernised infrastructure for economic growth and more jobs then go out and register.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com
“Take advantage of the limited registration exercise and be empowered to decide on the future of our country. Go and register, get your first voter’s ID card and vote.”
Ghana will go to the polls on November 7, 2016 to elect Members of Parliament and a new president. It will be the seventh general poll under the Fourth Republic.
