Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Has Failed In Her Duties As A Wife

What is being presidential? Being presidential is to dress, to walk, to act, to reason, to behave, to talk, to laugh like a president. It does not matter if you are a president or not, if you can do all these like a president, you are presidential. But is the leader of the biggest opposition party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presidential?

I will leave that for the public to judge, but not until I have my own take.

I have said in many of my write-ups my admiration for Nana Addo, he was and still is one of my role models. Many people in his position, having been born with silver spoons in their mouths, do not come far in life, examples abound in our communities.

During the Independence Day celebration last Sunday, judging by the body language of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, when the President, John Dramani Mahama, was talking to him, Nana Addo’s body spoke a lot, his body language shows inferiority complex, cluelessness, incompetency, opportunistic, inability, weakness, mediocrity, abasement, immorality, meanness and many more I could not remember for now.

What most importantly, but sadly caught my eye was how the Presidential candidate of the NPP, was shabbily dressed. For a moment I thought Nana Addo, was just waking up from bed or was having a meeting at his residence, then I remembered, it has been this all along.

There is a reason why spouses of our presidents or heads of state are paid; it is to ensure that our leaders don’t come out looking scruffy and unkempt.

The wife of the flagbearer of the NPP, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has failed in her duties as a wife to always ensure that, her husband doesn’t leave home dressed like he is going to play draft, under a tree.

The apparel my dad has always told me makes a man. Nana Addo, should just look at former President John Agyekum Kufuor, when he appears at state functions or even party functions, he is always smartly dressed to fit the occasion.

The appearance of a leader inspires confidence, it signifies hope, it shows the difference between a leader and the followers, it is the reason, why no minister or appointee of the President, is expected to dress better than the President.

Nana Addo, might just be like me, I have an I don’t care attitude, but many times when I leave my room, I am sure to meet someone in the house, who will remind me that, my shirt is not well ironed, or I haven’t combed my hair, or my dress is not fit to be taken out.

Nana Addo is surrounded by so many people, not only his wife, why is it that, none of them is able to tell him or remind him of where he was going last Sunday.

When you are on a campaign trail, you can afford to dress anyhow, but when you are gracefully invited to attend such an august occasion, as the Independence Day celebration, we should be reminded of the seriousness of the event.

May be we should all as Ghanaians help the man, his family and his party to understand his place and role in the politics of the country.

He has on two occasions, this year being his third, putting himself up for the position as the President of this country. He has lost twice and is looking to win on his third and final lap, so we need not remind him of what is required of the first gentleman of the land, as someone who has natured such an unbridled ambition to be President of the country, it is sad to see him appearing at programmes, like a fisherman or farmer.

For those that keep on following Nana Addo dogmatically, you should all be ashamed of yourselves for always parading your father or leader in public like a student leader. For crying out loud, Nana Addo, is the leader of the largest opposition party, and must be accorded all the respect and privileges that comes with that office.

He cannot be allowed to dress like a student leader, who has no regard to occasion and time.

As we age, a lot of things that we used to do as youth must give way to more adult behavior, which is why the good book talks about, when I was a child I think and behave like a child, but as an adult, I will need to think like one.

Nana Addo, by behavior and action is not presidential at all, Ghana will not be represented well in the comity of nations, when Nana Addo ever ascend the throne.

Dress does not determine competent, but it does open so many doors for a person, it helps one command respect and be celebrated.

Among the descriptions, will be that man or woman is always well dressed, but if our President dresses like a school boy how will the country be addressed.

Finally, I am not abusing or casting insinuations on the person of Nana Addo, but all I am asking is a question whether or not the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is presidential.
