Rebecca Akufo-Addo gets first appointment

Ghana’s new First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo will be the host and chairperson of an international conference scheduled for March 2017.

The African Women Intercultural Dialogue will be held on March 8, 2017 at the Accra International Conference Centre, two days after Ghana’s 60th Independence Day celebrations.

The dialogue will tackle a number of issues including female genital mutilation, child marriages, gender based violence and inheritance rights for women. The dialogue will witness a gathering of civil society organisations, market queens, religious and traditional authorities to deliberate on these issues.

March 8 is celebrated worldwide as International Women’s Day, a UN backed day to observe the achievements of women worldwide.

The theme for the 2017 celebrations is Be Bold For Change.

This is the first of a tall list of ceremonial duties that Mrs Akufo-Addo will be expected to perform as the spouse of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Former First Lady Mrs Lordina Mahama was the President of the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS from 2015 to 2017.
