RE-Ghana’s 59th Independence Day not worth celebrating – NUGS

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has not issued any statement on the 59th Independence Day commemoration with the caption “Ghana’s 59th Independence Day not worth celebrating – NUGS”

It cannot be the case that a 59 year-old nation like Ghana has nothing to boast of in terms of education despite some teething challenges that the educational sector still faces.

NUGS,by this statement, would like to advise all individuals arrogating to themselves the Union’s Spokesperson roles to as a matter of necessity DESIST from such untoward actions.

Article 40 Clause (a) of the NUGS Constitution clearly states that The President of the Union speaks for and on behalf of the Union and this must be duly respected.

It is important to note that ALL official NUGS correspondences must come from The President, through him or if not with his consent and or knowledge.

Clause (b) of thebsame article enjoins the President to “direct and manage in a disciplined manner” the activities of NUGS, hence the need for this statement.

Media houses, corporate bodies, students of Ghana and other stakeholders should therefore disregard any statement(s) representing the official position of the Union going forward without the President’s authority.

In that regard , I wish to state unequivocally that enough of the disrespect to the Union’s constitution hence, Thomas Takyi-Bonsu ( 2Tee) who has on several occasions shown a gross display of myopic officialdom and all others involved in issuing statements on behalf of the Union should note that as president of the Union, I will do everything in my powers to deal with all manner of inconsistencies and disrespect to the Constitution of NUGS.

Imperatively, it is not only constitutionally illegal, but it is also unhealthy for the communication coherence the mother Union seeks to safeguard even as we collectively serve students.

For those thinking of the functions of the President and the Press and Information Secretary, they should as a matter of necessity revisit the constitution of NUGS.

This statement comes to you in the true spirit of students’ goodwill, protection of our constitution and the historic solidarity that has held NUGS to this point.

Also, it is to ensure that the constitution of the Union is not trampled upon by any individual or group of persons.

Thank you

Signed:

Paa-Quecy Adu
