Prosecute ‘shameful’ Ibrahim Mahama – Ken Agyapong

Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has said that it was “shameful” for businessman Ibrahim Mahama to “issue 44 dud cheques” to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), hence must be prosecuted.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has asked Mr Mahama, brother of former President John Mahama, to pay GHS12.7m to the state by May 8.

The amount represents duty for goods he cleared at the Tema Port with the dud cheques in 2015, plus interest.

The order was communicated to Mr Mahama on Friday, 21 April, when he reappeared before EOCO after two previous meetings.

The issue about Mr Mahama’s failure to pay duty on the heavy equipment he imported into the country was first made public by the Assin Central MP.

Reacting to the EOCO directive to Mr Mahama to pay GHS12.7m, Mr Agyapong told Asempa FM’s Kwadwo Asare-Baffour Acheampong (KABA) on Friday, April 21 that he would be saddened if Mr Mahama was not prosecuted because the businessman has short-changed the nation.

For him, he would be happy if all other monies belonging to the state that were squandered by the previous government were retrieved.
