Pressure Mounts On Nii Armah Ashietey To Go Independent

Some ward Coordinators and Branch executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have sent a word of caution to the MP for the constituency, Hon. Nii Armah Ashitey to declare his intentions of contesting as an independent candidate in this years Parliamentary elections else they will seek some other person to contest.

In a Press statement issued and copied tO GhanaPoliticsonline.com on Tuesday bearing signatures and names of ward and Branch executives of the NDC in the Klottey Korle constituency, the group explained that, “We are all members of the NDC who have over the years work effortlessly to bring the party into power in this constituency.

The Klottey Korle constituency is a swing seat that has been represented in Parliament by both the NPP and the NDC.

The last two consecutive terms represented by Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey may have sort of given an impression that the constituency has suddenly become an NDC seat. However, we know, having campaigned with Hon, through out the years, the dynamics that comes to play in choosing a Parliamentarian by the people of Klottey Korle and all of these dynamics moves beyond being a member of the NDC alone.”

The Statement, signed by 15 Branch executives maintained that the current parliamentary candidate for the NDC is yet to campaign along the lines of the President who is the flag bearer of the party.

Adding that “ it is no news to us in Klottey Korle again that the party’s candidate simply don’t want to campaign for the President and has refused to praise him for the many achievements he has chalked since assuming office”

This and many other reasons, they claim has informed their decision to ask Nii Armah Ashietey to contest as an independent candidate in this years election in the Klottey Korle constituency.

They however warned that should Nii Armah Ashietey refuse to contest, they will encourage some other person to contest as an independent candidate. “ we seek to caution that if Hon. Nii Armah Ashitey refuses to contest as an independent candidate to represent us again in Parliament, then we shall have no other option than seek for another alternative in another able person from the constituency to contest”.
