President John Mahama, has asked people of the Northern region not to be swayed by what he describes as deceitful and unprincipled politics.
He stated that no elections has ever been won on insults and lies but a good track record.
The President who is on a two day accounting to the people tour of the Northern region, was addressing a large crowd at Tamale as he inaugurated the first phase of the multi-purpose storey Aboabo market.
This is another fulfilment of a major manifesto promise to reconstruct the market which has been abandoned since the 1970’s.
President Mahama was given a hero’s welcome to his home region
As a son of the Northern region, President Mahama has always received a rousing welcome but this welcome party was unique.
After undertaking his day’s activities at the outskirts of the capital, his entry into Tamale for his final duty for the day can be described as a triumphant entry.
His usual dispatch riders did not lead his convoy but a team of horses being rode by young men from the town.
The President was overwhelmed by the warm welcome.
The Aboabo market is one of the oldest in the Tamale metropolis and has deteriorated over time.
A representative of all the Chiefs in Tamale summarised their heartfelt appreciation for the project which has been on the drawing board for decades.
President Mahama, who recalled how as a young boy, he used to ride his bicycle around the Famous Aboabo market was happy that finally the project has seen the light of day.
He said his government is not only providing social amenities for the comfort of all citizens but also implementing livelihood projects.
The Aboabo market comes with facilities like Passenger terminals, car park, modern places of convenient, security posts and proper drainage systems.
