President John Mahama has upon advise from the National Council on Tertiary Education ordered the immediate dissolution of the Wa Polytechnic Council.
The directive comes in the wake of a protracted internal wrangling at the Institute.
An interim Council will take over management of the Polytechnic.
President Mahama was speaking at the Sunyani Polytechnic where he inaugurated a new Hospitality Catering and Integrated Management facility as the Polytechnic becomes Technical university next Academic year.
The President has on his Accounting to the people tour of the regions been inaugurating facilities in the various Polytechnic’s as a prelude to the conversion of the Polytechnic’s into technical universities in
September this year.

At the Sunyani Polytechnic, the President inaugurated a Hospitality Catering and Institutional Management block.
President Mahama said government will fast track the upgrade of facilities in the Polytechnics that are yet
to meet the conversion criteria.
The Wa polytechnic is one of the few yet to meet the criteria due to some internal problems making a number
of ongoing projects in the school to be put on hold.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com
The President emphasised that the conversion should not be a mere name change but an indication that Rectors must fine tune their courses to reflect the technical outlook.
President Mahama promised to provide the Sunyani Polytechnic with a School bus as requested by the Rector and also a contractor has been deployed to construct a one kilometre road that links the old campus to the new one which is in a deplorable state.
