President John Mahama has emphasized the need for peace to be treasured as the country goes to the polls in a few days.

Speaking on GBC’s URA Radio as part of his campaign tour of the Upper East Region, the President was optimistic that the general election would be peaceful.

He observed that Ghana has conducted six peaceful and successful elections in the recent past and there is no need for the election to be characterised by violence.

He made it clear that the security agencies would be on the alert to professionally handle security at all flash points.

President Mahama noted that work on the first phase of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital is 95 percent complete.

He said in the next two months the physical structure will be finished and equipped with state of the art equipment.

President Mahama said a delegation is in Saudi Arabia to source for funding for phase two which include maternity and other units.

District hospitals are being improved to take care of their catchment areas to ease the pressure on regional hospitals.

President Mahama also touched on the need to revamp the meat processing factories.

According to him, hotels and restaurants in the country are ready to buy well treated and packaged meat products.

Government intends to team up with the private sector especially farmers engaged in the animal husbandry.

Looking at his chances of winning the election, President Mahama said although he has campaigned in every region he would embark on a mop up and finish up the campaign.

He predicted a one round victory for the NDC, based on the scientific polls the party has conducted so far.
