President Mahama opens Ghana’s first boxing arena in Accra (Video +Pictures)

President John Dramani Mahama has opened the boxing arena at Jamestown in Accra, today.

The 7,000 capacity arena, which is been funded by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), is expected to groom Ghana’s boxing talents especially in the Bukom area of Accra.

In President Mahama’s state of the nation’s address in February, there was the assurance that the arena would help improve the small sector sports in Ghana and also groom the talents of young Ghanaians who aspire to be professional boxers.

The boxing arena, which may be named after Ghana’s most popular boxer, Bukom Banku, will have additional facilities such as a conference hall, shops, a restaurant, a clinic, an aerobics gym, a school block, a seating and standing area for the physically challenged, a swimming pool, physiotherapy and spa.

This follows the grand commissioning of the new Kwame Nkrumah Circle flyover yest erday which attracted thousands of onlookers.
