President Mahama opens Digital Centre; promises 10,000 jobs

President John Dramani Mahama has identified the ICT sector as a growing force in the development of the economy which cannot be ignored.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Accra Digital Center.

President Mahama said the multi-million dollar facility is expected to provide over 10 thousand jobs for the youth in the country.

President Mahama also used the occasion to launch the ICT Youth Employment Program dubbed “Digital jobs for digital youth”.

The ICT youth employment policy is expected to provide jobs for the youth in the sector.

It is part of initiatives by the President Mahama led NDC to solve the unemployment issue in the country.

President Mahama cleared the air on some misconceptions concerning the ban on employment in the public sector, saying the ban does not apply to the educational and health sectors.

The center among other functions will serve as a hub for access to information on all businesses in the country as well as make available the needed facilities for individual to develop softwares and applications to help in everyday activities.

The facility which consist of 12 structures was developed by converting the Public Works Departments old warehouses into grade “A” buildings.

In addition to the upgrading of the buildings, the refurbished works include the provision of ICT connection infrastructure, 2 standby generators, plug and play office facilities as well as custom built shared office among others.

President Mahama said the Facility is expected to accelerate his government’s action in fostering the growth of the ICT sector.

President Mahama highlighted improvements in certain areas of the economy as a result of government’s interventions.

The Minister for Communication Edward Omani Boamah said the facility has more than enough broadband to work with

President Mahama is expected to inaugurate other projects including the National Data Center, the biggest in the sub region.
