President Mahama inaugurates 2nd phase of Sonon-Asogli Power project

President John Mahama says his vision of making Ghana the power hub in West Africa remains on course.

He said this at the inauguration of the first unit of the Sonon-Asogli Power Phase two project at Kpone.

He said the completion of the phase two will see the addition of three hundred and 60 megawatts of gas fired power to the national grid.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com/

He said the generation of gas from the western region to the Tema Eastern Power enclave is being accelerated so that the excess gas from the west can fuel plants like the Sonon-Asogli plant.

GBC’S Augustus Acquaye reports that, the Sonon-Asogli Power Plant is a private sector led power generation plant operated by Shenzen Energy of China.

Commissioning the first unit of the project, President Mahama said Ghana is now in a sure footing to be an energy exporter.

The chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, CPPCC, Yu Zhengsheng said the plant is a fruit of china Ghana economic relations. He said China will forever be Africa’s ally in economic growth.

The first unit of the phase two project officially came on stream on the national grid on February 16 this year.
