JOHANNESBURG – As he spends today with his family in KwaZulu-Natal, President Jacob Zuma says his birthday wish is to see South Africa become a better place for all.
Zuma celebrates his 74th birthday today.
The occasion comes on the back of a difficult week for Zuma, with a damning Constitutional Court ruling against him, a failed impeachment attempt in Parliament and growing calls for him step down.
Quoting Zuma, the presidency’s Bongani Majola said, “I wish for our country to continue working together to address our common challenges, particularly in this difficult economic climate of joblessness; rising fuel and food prices and high levels of poverty and inequality. It is only through our unity as South Africans that we will be able to overcome the current challenges and build a prosperous South Africa.”
Meanwhile, some South Africans took to Twitter to wish the president a happy birthday, while others criticised his leadership.
