PP, PNC & PPP join NDC out of Abuakwa North by-election

Opposition parties Convention People’s Party (CPP), the People’s National Convention (PNC) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) have proffered various reasons for which they cannot present candidates for the upcoming by-election in the Abuakwa North Constituency.

On Wednesday, March 2, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced its withdrawal from the contest in honour of the slain Member of Parliament, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.

Mr Danquah-Adu was stabbed to death at his East Legon residence on Tuesday, February 9 by Daniel Asiedu, 19.

His party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has elected educationist Gifty Twum for the March 29 by-election.

But speaking on TV3’s News 360 on Thursday, representatives of the CPP, PNC and PPP say their parties will not http://ghanapoliticsonline.comcontest the seat.

Youth Organiser of CPP Ernesto Yeboah said the timing of the by-election is too close for the leading Nkrumahist party to pool resources to contest.

According to him, they will rather do so for the upcoming nationwide parliamentary elections – which are likely to be held on November 7.

National Secretary of the PPP Mutala Moahmmed also tabled the same reason for which his party will not contest the seat this month.

PNC’s Youth Organiser Awudu Abdulai says their withdrawal is to sympathise with the family of the JB Danquah-Adu.
