PIPS to probe ‘rape report for sale’ at Police Hospital

The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an exposé by Starr News that individuals pay monies to secure rape and defilement reports from the Police Hospital in Accra without scrutinizing the alleged victim.

Painstaking investigations by Starr News’ court correspondent Wilberforce Asare revealed that doctors at the Police Hospital are prepared to write a report incriminating one of rape offenses for a fee, without any medical checkup of the supposed victim.

Asare who visited the hospital on different occasions with a pseudo victim’s name, had two separate defilement reports written for him for court purposes without any scrutiny or medical check on the supposed victim.

Speaking to Starr News, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur said the exposé at the Police hospital is damning to the image of the Police Service.

Superintendent Arthur added that the matter has been referred to the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS) for further investigations.

He added that Starr News’ Asare would be invited to help the Police with investigations. He added that any doctor found culpable would be dealt with.
