Persons With Disabilities To Demonstrate Against Akufo Addo

The Association of Persons with Disabilities branch in Afigya Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti region have threatened to embark on a  demonstration against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu over delay in the release of their share of the District Assembly Common Fund.

According them, government has released the Money to various MMDCEs across the country but the MCE has failed to release the money to them.

Speaking to Fox FM reporter, Frank Ntow on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 they complained that they have been left out as most of them need the money to pay their children school fees, medical bills and also to expand their business.

“The Gov’t owes us disability share of Common Fund over 4th quarter since 2017, which the government has released the money to the District Assemblies in January but up to date, we the disabled persons in Affigya Kwabre District have not yet received our Money” they bemoaned.

District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) Act 1993, ACT 455, stipulates that a three per cent allocation be made to Persons with Disability out of the District Assembly Common Fund.

The aims of the DACF for PWDs are to reduce poverty among all PWDs particularly those outside the formal sector of employment, and enhance their social image through dignified labour.

The aggrieved PWDs have planned to storm the Municipal Assembly as soon as possible to demand their share of the three (3) percent common fund
