Paul Afoko’s case adjourned to March 24

An Accra High Court has adjourned to March 24 the case in which suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko is challenging his suspension.

This is to allow all parties in the case to file their documents and witness statements.

Among the five issues raised by Mr Afoko, the court is to determine the status of some two members of the NPP, whose petition to the party’s Disciplinary Committee led to the suspension of Paul Afoko.

Mr Afoko’s lawyers are challenging the legitimacy of Madam Gifty Kusi and Alhaji Short to be on the Disciplinary Committee.

According to him, the two do not have the right to demand his removal since they are not properly appointed members of the committee.

Speaking to Joy News after the hearing on Wednesday, spokesperson for Paul Afoko, Nana Yaw Osei explained that they are contesting the decisions of the Committee based on which he was suspended.

The NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) suspended Paul Afoko in October 2015 for “misconduct” following a recommendation by the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

An angry Paul Afoko subsequently sued the NPP, describing his suspension as “unconstitutional.”

He is praying the court to interpret the NPP constitution which he wants to be used as basis to declare his suspension as null and void.
