Paul Afoko Remains The National Chairman Of NPP – Hilda Addo

Former Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Hilda Josephine Addo, has described the suspension of the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko as a sham.

According to her, the NPP’s National Executive Council (NEC) which took the decision to suspend the chairman of the party was not properly constituted. The NPP NEC unanimously voted to suspend its National Chairman Paul Afoko indefinitely.

The NEC upheld the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee which concluded that Mr Afoko be suspended after reviewing two petitions submitted by party members.

The decision was taken in a meeting called on Friday October 23, by First National Vice Chairman, Freddie Blay. The Disciplinary Committee took the decision first, after the National Council of Elders in September wrote to it, demanding amongst others, that the National Chairman Paul Afoko, be made to step aside until after the 2016 elections.

The Chairman of the Council of Elders, C.K. Tedem explaining the party’s decision to suspend its National Chairman, stated that Mr. Afoko was acting against the interest of the party, hence the suspension.

“He Paul Afoko showed arrogance and failed to honor several invitations to solve issues amicably”.

But speaking on Adom FM Tuesday, the former MP for Kwadaso constituency said there is more to the suspension than what is being reported by the National Executive Committee of the party.

She claimed Mr. Paul Afoko has not known peace since he assumed office as National Chairman NPP. Hilda Addo, who played a key role in Alan Kyerematen’s bid to become NPP flag bearer reiterated that there is “no coherent reason” for the decision NEC took against the party chairman.

“Before Afoko became the chairman of the party, they had already tarnished his image. There have been so many plots to get him out of office even when there is nothing sensibly wrong against him” she said.

In her view, Paul Afoko remains the chairman of the party because it is “illegal” for the First Vice Chairman of the party to call a National Executive Council meeting whilst the National Chair was in the country.
