Paul Afoko Is Still At Post – Aide

The office of the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has dismissed media reports that he has been “suspended”.

Nana Yaw Osei, Special Aide to the NPP’s National Chairman strongly asserts “Paul Afoko is still at post”.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Nana Yaw stated quite emphatically that – “Paul is working to ensure the NPP wins the 2016 presidential election.

His remarks follows on the heels of a proposal from the Council Of Elders (CoE)of the party requesting the National Disciplinary Committee of the party to suspend Mr Afoko until after the 2016 general elections.

The Council in a 7-page letter to the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee, ordered that steps be taken to suspend Mr. Paul Afoko from the position of Chairman. According to them, it was imperative for the party to take this action in order to bring peace and oneness of purpose for their party towards the 2016 general elections.

The CoE further noted that the conduct of the National Chairman is a gross and flagrant violation of Article 3D (VIII) of the party’s Constitution which states that “A member shall not initiate, commence or prosecute any legal proceedings whatsoever against the party or any other Member of the party relating to party affairs, without first having exhausted the grievance procedure laid down in this Constitution in respect of grievances against the party or any other Member”.

In a letter issued to Mr. Afoko Thursday, the CoE accused Mr. Afoko of issuing a statement through his spokesperson outlining his commitment to fight corruption at all levels of the party.

But Mr. Afoko’s spokesperson told NEAT FM’s morning show host Kwasi Aboagye that the proposal from the party’s elders should be disregarded because Paul Afoko still remains the National Chairman of the largest opposition party.
