Passage of Minerals and Mining Bill Into Law Will Reduce Galamsey Activities – President Mahama

President John Mahama says when the new Minerals and Mining Bill becomes law, it will help reduce the incidence of galamsey in the country.

He said the proposed law categorises mining into three segments, unlike the existing law which recognises only large and small scale miners, while the new law adds medium scale.

Each activity he said, will be regulated according to its scale.

Addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Denkyira at Boamponsem Ahenfie on the second day of his Accounting To The People Tour of the Central Region, President Mahama said the new Minerals and Mining law will help reduce the menace of galamsey and the subsequent destruction of the land and water bodies by illegal miners.

The Adontenhene on behalf of the President of the Denkyira Traditional Council thanked President Mahama for the unprecedented level of development that has taken place in the whole of Denkyira.

He said measures put in place by government has reduced the operations of galamsey in the community.
