Parliament Begins Constitutional Amendment Process(Audio)

Parliament has in accordance with Article 291 of the Constitution read the Constitution Amendment Bill 2016 for the First time to kick start the process of amending the 1992 Constitution.

The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine presented the Bill on the Floor.

This Particular Bill is in respect of amending Article 112 of the Constitution to provide for the date for Parliamentary elections.

The Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho has in accordance with the provisions in the Constitution referred the Bill to the Council of State for consideration and advice.

The Constitution Amendment Bill 2016 has already been published twice in the Gazette with second publication made at least three months after the first and at least ten days have passed after the second publication hence the laying of the Bill in Parliament.
