(Audio)Parliament approves 13.5million Euro facility for polyclinic projects

Parliament has approved an export credit agreement between the Government of Ghana and Unicredit Bank Austria AG for an amount of Thirteen Million Five hundred thousand Euros for the financing of the construction and equipping of five polyclinics in the Greater Accra Region.

Presenting the report of the Finance Committee for the approval of the Facility the Chairman of the Finance Committee James Avedzi said greater Accra was chosen because current healthcare infrastructure in the region is unable to cater for the increasing population due to urbanization.

The five polyclinic projects will be undertaken in Adentan, Ashaiman, Bortianor Oduman and Sege.

The aim is to provide access to quality health care to the people of the proposed Towns.

The project will involve supply and installation of equipment after completion of civil works and provide training for medical staff and medical technicians to operate facilities efficiently upon completion.

The Ranking Member on the Finance Committee Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei supported the approval of the facility and wanted to know what went into the selection of the beneficiary communities.

Upon completion the five 30-bed polyclinics will provide General consultation, ENT, Ultrasound, emergency out-patient services and diagnostic services such as Radiology, Laboratory, Operating Theater and Maternity.

The Polyclinics will have offices and staff buildings for Doctors and Nurses, waiting areas, teaching facilities and Staff Houses.

The Project is expected to create about 500 direct jobs to the unemployed youth.
