Otiko has ‘locked up sick husband’ and starving him – Naabu

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba, has locked up her sick husband and refused to give him food, Northern regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has disclosed.

Mr Naabu described the Gender Minister as a “controversial” person who has refused to use her husband’s name or the title ‘Mrs’ in her endeavours.

The Northern regional Chairman’s jab is in reaction to an allegation made against him by Ms Djaba that he is a bribe-taking politician.

“… A woman who is married, the husband is a doctor, she is supposed to be called Mrs Tapan but nobody knows that Otiko is married. Whatever she does, she does it without any ‘Mrs’. The husband is sick, she has locked the husband in the house. She doesn’t give him food to eat, the man’s children are angry [and want] to go and prepare food for their father. So such a woman, is she responsible? In Tamale here everybody knows,” Mr Naabu said in an interview with Accra-based Radio XYZ.

Ms Djaba and Mr Naabu have been at each other’s neck following a supposed meeting the Gender Minister had with some women’s group in the Northern Region.

Ms Djaba accused Mr Naabu of extorting money, cows, and goats from people with the promise to secure them appointments in the Akufo-Addo government in a radio interview after Mr Naabu had interrupted her meeting with the women on Friday, 5 May.

Mr Naabu, in his defence, described the meeting as “illegal” and “unconstitutional” because she had not informed him of the meeting. He also alleged that Ms Djaba was meeting with the women to introduce her choice of School Feeding Programme coordinator to them, an allegation Ms Djaba has denied.
