Osafo-Marfo Hijacks Bawumia’s Official Residence

Reports emerging from government circles, reveal that the Vice President, is still living in his Kanda private residence which used to house his late father, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, onetime Chairman of the Council of State under President Jerry John Rawlings.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is yet to be allocated his official state bungalow, hence commutes from his late father’s house to work at the Flagstaff House daily.

It has been over a year, since ex-President John Mahama, was sensationally ejected from the house, which was once occupied by the late Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills and the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama in their capacities as Vice-Presidents, the house has not been offered to Dr. Bawumia.

The Herald is informed that, the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, has hijacked the state bungalow; located at No.3 Prestige Link in Cantonment – Accra from the Vice-President, and has regularly been receiving his guests there.

The house is still under the protection of the state security apparatus, including personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service.

What is interesting is that, Mr. Osafo-Marfo, who led the NPP Transition Team, after collecting the keys to the house from President Mahama, did not submit same to Dr. Bawumia as expected, leaving some government officials, especially operatives inside the Flagstaff House, wondering whether Mr. Osafo Maafo’s attitude is not a sign of disrespect to the Vice-President.

Many have described the development as bizarre, considering the embarrassing manner in which the Akufo-Addo government, had used the name of Dr. Bawumia to eject former-President Mahama, despite a pledge President Akufo-Addo made before the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, to allow Mr. Mahama live in the house, until the state is able to find a decent accommodation for him per his retirement package.

The Herald, is informed that, currently Mr. Mahama and his family, lives in a rented house behind the Burma Camp in Accra.

The Akufo-Addo government, is yet to provide him the accommodation per the Prof Dora Francisca Edu-Bandoh Committee.

Meanwhile, construction of the vice presidents’ official residence behind the Police Headquarters in Accra started by the Mahama government, has stalled.

It doesn’t look likely that the government Akufo-Addo government wants to continue with construction.

It is also unclear whether the government has concluded its audit into the work, amid claims that the previous government blew a whopping 13.9 million United States dollars on the yet-to-be-completed building.
