OPERATIONS OF HOODLUMS, A DENT ON OUR ENVIABLE DEMOCRACY – GOVERNANCE WATCH

Governance Watch has taken notice of the discussion in the midst of the general Ghanaian public, and wish to add its voice to calls on the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, to step his foot on the group and deal with the brutish behavior of groups of individuals who have assumed responsibility on matters of security, visiting mayhem and terror on the lives of innocent Ghanaians.

These groups, Invisible Forces, Delta Forces, Kandaha Boys, Bolgatanga Bulldogs, among others, which are linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have gained notoriety in the Ghanaian society and have gone about their illegal operations with impunity without reprimand from those charged with the responsibility to deal with such attitudes.

It must be of note to the leadership of the state, that it has a responsibility of preserving and protecting the integrity of Ghana.

While government and its operatives go about their businesses, like anybody else, they must be mindful, that all citizens have rights and liberties that must be protected as guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

We are particularly taken aback at the recent happenings where one of these groups, Delta Forces, raided a court room during official court proceedings and let loose their colleagues while threatening the safety and security of officials of the court who were discharging their duties as enshrined in the Constitution.

We want to emphatically demand from the leadership of this country and especially the president whose party is linked to these groups, to not only appear to be committed to fighting these terrorist groupings, but must be seen to be taking actions that would portray his commitment to his words.

We wish to admonish Ghanaians to, as a matter of necessity, speak up and ensure that their rights that are guaranteed under the Constitution, are safeguarded and protected in the interest of all.

We are also by this release, calling on all well-meaning Ghanaians and Civil Society Organizations, to add their voice to this ugly and extremist canker that has taken hold of this sovereign state as it has grave repercussions for the security and peaceful coexistence of all Ghanaians and our foreigner development partners with businesses here in Ghana.
