Occupy Ghana to ‘occupy’ polling stations in 2016

Pressure group Occupy Ghana has applied to the Electoral Commission to be given an observer status to enable members monitor the 2016 general elections.

The group which has been at the forefront of political activism particularly against corruption in the country says it is keen to ensure that next year’s election are free and fair and results declared accepted.

A leading member of the pressure group, Sydney Casley Hayford announced this at a forum held in Accra to observe Occupy Ghana’s first anniversary, Thursday.

Casley Hayford revealed that the group would set up “machines” at polling stations across the country.

Every activity at the polling stations would be monitored, he said, to ensure that “we are going to get free and open elections”.

More than 26,000 polling stations were set up by the Electoral Commission in the 2012 parliamentary and presidential general elections.
