NPP’s Obiri Boahen is ignorant and confused – Afriyie Ankrah

Former Sports Minister and presidential staffer under the Mahama led administration, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has labeled the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), lawyer Obiri Boahen as an ignorant person.

Early this week, a 15 fully armed soldiers and four National Security Operatives on February 1 2017, purportedly went to the Tema Gulf City residence of NDC National Organiser and drove away three pickups and two Toyota Land cruiser vehicles owned by Mr. Adams himself to the Flagstaff House. According to reports from some members of the NPP, nearly all members of the immediate past NDC stole cars belonging to the state.

In an interview with Rainbow Radio, the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling NPP, Lawyer Obiri Boahen emphatically alleged that, the vehicles seized from Kofi Adams residence had one of the chassis number changed and registered in the name of Kofi Adams. He added that, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah also possess another ‘’stolen’’ vehicle with the chassis number changed.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen also alleged that, the Toyota Camry being used by Mr. Ankrah with registration number GR 357-17 had an original registration number, UE 136-14 with the same chassis number, but Elvis Afriyie Ankrah through the DVLA got the car registered in his name.

However in a rebuttal to the numerous allegations on the same radio station, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah recounted that before the erstwhile NDC government exited;

“they [members of the NDC government] were asked by the transitional team to hand over all land cruiser cars, but the saloon cars used over 2 years and above were viable for auctioning, and therefore majority of the members of the then government expressed interest, wrote letters to the appropriate authorities and went through the required process. I went through them and paid what I needed to pay. The procedure is a normal procedure under every government…When a government vehicle is auctioned for you and you pay for it, the vehicle will no longer belong to government.’’
The former minister clarified that, he changed the registration number because it was no longer a government property, adding, his vehicle was seized and tested and was handed over back to him with an apology hence he finds “it worrying that Lawyer Obiri Boahen will exhibit his ignorance on the matter.”

“The duty for the car was GHS12,102 and so if Obiri Boahen keeps embarrassing himself on this issue, then I feel sad for him. It’s either he’s lying or he’s ignorant. His argument makes no sense. It’s illogical. He has been briefed wrongly. This is unfortunate to him as a lawyer.’’

In the heat of the interview, the Deputy General Secretary stated categorically that “Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is a thief. If that is the tangent he wants us to go then I will call him a thief. The NDC and their allies are thieves including him, Afriyie Ankrah.’’

The former Sports Minister and presidential staffer in a sharp rebuttal described Obiri Boahen “as frustrated and a confused person. I have the right to sue him for calling me a thief…I am not ready to argue with ignorant people.”
