The long forgotten days of stressful Hajj for Ghanaian Muslims who embark on the annual Hajj pilgrimage under the Kufour-led NPP government from 2001-2008 is back again under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.

Under the 8 years of the NDC government of the late J.E.A. Mills and John Mahama, Muslims who embarked on Hajj to the holy land of Macca were given the best of care right from the Kotoka International Airport to Medina in Saudi Arabia.
It was even under the Mahama administration that saw prospective Pilgrims from the Brong Ahafo and the three Northern Regions flying directly from the Tamale International Airport to Saudi Arabia.

Despite all the innovations and improvements that the NDC government put in place to ensure that every Muslim desirous of attending Hajj did so in dignity, the NPP party then in opposition told Ghanaians and Muslims in particular that voting for Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia a Muslim will ensure that Muslims will have a strong footing in government when they win.
News reaching Daily Post from Saudi Arabia tells of worrying conditions for the Ghanaian contingent attending the 2017 Hajj.
Videos and pictures from Saudi Arabia shows pilgrims sleeping in the open under the Hot sun with very dirty surroundings of heaps of disposed food packs and paper card.
In the video, some of the women, including a heavily pregnant woman angrily poured curses upon curses on the NPP government and have vowed not to pray for the President. They wondered why they were made to pay Gh¢ 15, 000 only for them to come sleep in the open. Interestingly, the pilgrims were this year made to pay an additional $100 with the explanation that it is the extra cost they would have to bear for sleeping in air-conditioned tents they had arranged for them while in Saudi Arabia.
Further checks revealed that the pilgrims are being served ordinary pipe water instead of treated water. They are alarmed that most of them are at risk of falling sick due to the inhumane treatment being mated out to them.
In June this year, when the Vice-President, Mahamadu Bawumia interacted with the Muslim community in Sunyani as part of his working visit there, he promised that the NPP government would provide food and transport in Saudi Arabia for all Ghanaians hajj pilgrims this year.
“It is very stressful when you embark on Hajj. The government is now planning to feed you three-times-a-day when to Mecca. It is one surest way of making the Hajj smooth. Another plan by the government is to provide pilgrims with means of transport when you reach Mecca. We have realised that transportation is a major challenge. So we will provide buses to wherever you wish to go when you are in Mecca,” he promised
This promise has turned out to be a lie as the Ghanaian pilgrims now in Saudi Arabia buy their own food and cater for their own transport. Those who did not take adequate money because they believe Bawumia suddenly find themselves in hot waters.
