NPP MAN CAUGHT HORDING HOSPITAL DRUG SUPPLIES AND SELLING FOR PERSONAL PROFIT
pharmacist technician at the Gwollu Hospital in the Sissala West District, Abdul Mumin Gbei aka Adams, has been arrested for hording drugs meant for the hospital and selling them at his personal ‘shop’.
The suspect who also doubles as an Assembly Man for the Nmagubele Electoral Area of Sissala West and also a leading member of opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was arrested this morning at Gwollu in the Upper West Region.
According to sources at the hospital, there has always been shortage of drugs for patients which makes it almost impossible for drugs to be dispersed. The situation over the months had become worrying as patients struggled to get drugs prescribed by doctors at the hospital.
It is reported that, the suspect owns a pharmacy shop where he sells the stolen drugs meant for the health center.
The situation has created much discontentment amongst the people who believe government has failed to supply the hospital with drugs.
It will be recalled that, about a week ago, the First Lady, Dr Lordina Mahama whilst on a recent visit to the Gwollu hospital donated some drugs and medical equipment to the health center. It was whilst trying to sell some of these drugs that Abdul Mumin Gamei was caught.
The suspect run out of luck on Thursday 14th July, when he attempted selling some of the drugs donated by the First Lady to one of his clients (name with held).
A colleague staff who chanced upon the transaction lodged a formal complaint with the authorities and he was subsequently arrested by the District Police Command.
An insider at the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed this isn’t the first time the suspect has been involved with such deeds. Sometime ago, he was caught in the act and subsequently cautioned by the District Director of Health where he signed a bond of good behavior.
Abdul Mumin Gbei is popular political activist in the district. He is known for criticising the government of President John Mahama.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
