NPP, LMVCA must accept EC decision – NDC

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Koku Anyidoho has stated that the New Patriotic Party and the Let My Vote Count Alliance have no choice than to accept the decision of the Electoral Commission on the call for a new voters’ register.

The NPP and the LMVCA have spearheaded the call for a new voters’ register claiming that the register used for the 2012 election was bloated and not credible.

The EC set up an Independent Panel to look into the concerns of stakeholders on the Voters’ Register but the panel shot down the idea.

In a statement the EC said “The Electoral Commission will continue to engage stakeholders to ensure that a clean and credible voters’ register is in place for the 2016 general elections through an inclusive and collaborative audit process.”

“The Panel finds the arguments for a new register unconvincing and therefore does not recommend the replacement of the current voters’ register,” the statement added.

But Pro-opposition pressure group, LMVCA, has hinted of a court action to compel the EC to compile a new voter’s register.

Anyidoho in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa Monday said the EC must be hailed for taking a bold decision not to compile a new voters’ register.

“We all know that what they [NPP] were doing was much ado about nothing… so it’s to put the matter to rest, the EC has spoken and we respect the decision of the EC,” Anyidoho said.
