NPP Lacks Moral Authority On Corruption

Bright Dzakah

The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying it has no moral authority to accuse President John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC government of being corrupt.

According to the NDC scribe, NPP’s record of fighting the menace both in the past and present, has been nothing but pathetic.

“They claimed they are apostles of democracy but when Paul Afoko the then Chairman raised issues concerning a certain bank account, I am sure you know what happened to him, can these people claim to be fighting corruption” General Mosquito as he is affectionately called him queried.

President Mahama, had stated during his last State of the Nation Address in Parliament that under his watch, a lot of corruption-related activities had been exposed, but the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, rebutted by describing President Mahama’s fight against corruption as a “sham” and “self-professed”.

In his ‘Real State of the Nation Address’ at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Nana Addo, said all the corruption scandals that had been exposed, were not as a result of the President’s effort, but the media, civil society organizations and the Minority in Parliament.

However, speaking on News and Current Affairs programme Ghana Dadwen on Tuesday, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, maintained that President Mahama’s fight against corruption was unmatched.

“Just mention one instance of corruption case that the president is not dealing with, unlike Ex-President Kufour who said when you find any of his ministers to be indulging in an act of corruption, you should go and report to the police” he stated.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, said if NPP in opposition was not able to solve issues of corruption, how will they be able to do so in government.

He asked, “how can Nana Addo supervised suspension of people in the party, who exposed corruption, but wants to govern”.

The NDC bigwig went on “when they are chasing people out of the party over corruption, how will they fight it when they have power, master they
should not talk about corruption”.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

He questioned “have you heard that someone embezzles money in the NDC and he is covered? Asempa that is the difference between the NDC and the NPP”.
