The leadership of Congress for Democratic Change, says it has received information from credible sources that Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s Finance Minister is interfering with the runoff election in Liberia.
According to information gathered from credible sources, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta and some leaders in the Subregion have initiated a peace pipe between departing Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and her Vice President and standard bearer of the ruling Unity Party, Joseph Boakai. A speech which was delivered by Vice-President Boakai last Monday following his return from Dakar,Senegal where he had been summoned by Senegalese President, Macky Sall, and posted by Mr Robert Kpadeh, Secretary General of the National Movement to Support Boakai (NAMBO) confirmed CDC’s suspicion. Ghana’s Finance Minister Mr Ken Ofori-Atta a close ally of the outgoing Liberian President, is leading this peace pipe agenda to get Vice President Bokai elected. Meanwhile inner circles of the opposition CDC led by George Weah are fuming with rage at the attempt by Ken Ofori-Atta to interfere in their affairs. The feud in the ruling Unity Party contributed to the party’s abysmal performance in the first round of the elections. Commerce Minister Axel Addy, former Finance Minister Amara Konneh, who are still loyal to Sirleaf and recently attacked some officials who took to social media to take the outgoing President to task, have all moved closer to the Bokai Camp. According to our sources, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta has been holding meetings with the various camps in the ruling Unity Party all as part of attempts by Mr Ofori- Atta and his group in the subregion to make Weah’s dream impossible.

GHANAPOLITICSONLINE.COM source disclosed that in a recently held meeting by the leadership of the CDC and attended by Senator Richard Devine, Mr Janga Kowo, Dr Toga Macintosh, Prof. Ansu Sonii, Nathaniel Patray,Mr Mulbah Morlu and members of the party’s campaign oversight team including Sen. Jewel Howard Taylor, Hon. Alex Tyler, Sen. Marshall Dennis, James Biney,Hon. Wesseh Blamo and other party stalwarts, it was revealed that the Ghanaian government through Mr Ken Ofori-Atta is funding Mr Bokai’s second round campaign and sponsoring his trip across the subregion. President Sirleaf’s decision to chastise her education minister George Werner is seen by some aides as a sign of appeasement in the wake of efforts by Ken Ofori-Atta and other regional stakeholders to end the impasse between President Ellen Sirleaf Johnson and her Vice Mr Boakai. Before the first round election Senator Jewel Howard Taylor struck nerves when he defended Weah’s absence from the first presidential debate. Taylor asked those who attacked Weah for not attending the debate to provide evidence that Sirleaf became president in Liberia because she was a great debator. Aides of Boakai expressed outraged at the President ignoring Werner’s outbursts and attacks on Boakai. Supporters of President Ellen Sirfleaf also cited posts by aides to Boakai accusing her of not supporting his presidential bid and alleged that she is supporting the CDC. It is against the backdrop that many were taken aback when Sirleaf instructed Minister Werner to desist attacking Boakai on social media. President Sirleaf finally breaking ranks against her education minister and other loyalists who have been critical of Boakai and his aide may be silver lining Ken Ofori-Atta and some regional leaders including former President Olesegun Obasanjo, Ivorian leader Alhassan Quatarra and local and stakeholders and clergy have been quietly pursuing for months to end the feud between the two. Our sources revealed that Ghana’s Finance Minister recently arraigned a meeting between some Ghanaian officials including top officials of government and Varney Sherman where a deal was reached between the Unity Party’s former Chairman and other vibrant leaders of the Unity party were promised lucrative contracts and money if they supported the ongoing healing process.
George Weah, even though rich because of football and entrepreneurship, is not favoured by Ken Ofori-Atta because he was not born with a silver spoon in is mouth. One cannot measure how much is being spent by Ghana on the Liberian elections and this call for answers.
