IS THE NPP COLLAPSING? -Anthony Obeng Afrane

Kikikikikiki, did you hear Rev. Owusu Bempah on OK FM a few days ago? He was asked by Kwame Nkrumah Tikese whether he still stands by his prophesy that Nana Akufo-Addo will win this year’s presidential election. Hehehehehe, do you know what he said? Chai, your ears dey sweet you papa. Don’t worry I will give you the filla later.

Akans have a proverb which says that a bad habit is like pregnancy, it can never be hidden. The fact that Nana Akufo-Addo has a bad habit of finding it difficult working with people is becoming obvious. I don’t intend bruising the ego of my uncle, but a fact is always a fact.

I’m not trying to assault the pillars of any institution oo. A friend of mine told me that my lessons on abbreviations has exposed some big institutions. Contrary to the accepted convention that an abbreviation should not be followed with a word that is included in the abbreviation, e.g. ATM machine, one of the biggest banks in the country has “bank” added to its abbreviation in some of its official documents.

Today, I’m going to wade into some literary controversies. A Comptroller is the Chief Accountant in a governmental agency, while a Controller is the Chief Accountant in a company or a private business. So, should we say “Controller and Accountant General Department” or “Comptroller and Accountant General Department”? This calls for a serious academic debate.

Oti Bless to apologise to the Chief Justice for an uncomplimentary remarks he made on radio, but I beg you, call the Dompim Butcher to order for insulting the EC boss and womanhood. Rt. Hon. make na make wild! Biegya. You sabe say I like you; I don’t want anyone talk say you no get balls oo, ayoo.

Cough-cough, things are fallen apart and the centre can no longer hold in the largest opposition party in Ghana. A bird whispered to me that any decision taken by the party must have the final approval of the Akyem Mafia. This development is tearing the party apart and many leading members are worried.

Is it true that the party decided at a meeting to let Machiavelli Bawu, be the Special Guest of Honour at their fundraising in London, and after billboards with Bawu’s pictures had been errected, the Akyem Mafia over-ruled the decision and ordered that Mrs. Opana should rather be the Special Guest of Honour? Awww, Bawu, is this your reward after all the dirty work you did? Chai, some parties are not worth dying for.

There is some huhuhuhu going on that the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo a week ago angrily threw away a draft of the party’s manifesto which was prepared by Mr. Boakye Agyarko and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He called the document a useless manifesto. Hehehehehe, Agyarko and Bawumia must be angry too.

In a related matter, a frustrated Dr. Twumasi, a leading member of the USA branch of the NPP is alleged to have made this statement:

“Our leader’s inability to appear on the IEA platform as advertised is another blow to our campaign. News out there that Nana Akufo-Addo rubbished the Manifesto presented to him by the Manifesto committee is unacceptable.When did Ken Ofori Atta and Gabby become experts in drafting of our party’s manifesto. Strong leadership is essential for all political organisations to grow and be successful.

Poor leadership results in poor performance, which ultimately leads to failure of the party’s business. Ineffective or bad leaders may be able to slide by for a while, but a few common signs of poor leadership eventually reveals themselves.When the problems become apparent, it’s important to resolve the situation before the manager can do permanent damage. As medical officer I believe in diagnonising problems before making appropriate recommendations.Those playing the ostrich at this crucial period of our party will regret their actions soon….”

Sajewa, no be me dey talk oo. The man dey talk say them chop the wrong meat, and that Opana be poor leader. Kikikikikiki, I laugh go enter Nima Flagstaff House. Can I ask a question please? Is it true that there is a serious problem between Nana Akufo-Addo and Mr. Freddy Blay, the Acting Chairman of the NPP? Laa illa, illa laa, who is wrong? Paul Afoko or Freddy Blay or Kwabena Agyapong or Sammy Crabbe or is it a case of the pregnancy analogy in the Akan proverb?

Kai, matter dey paa oo. Is it also true that a sum of GHC50,000 donated by a businessman to the NPP to help them monitor the voter registration exhibition exercise has been stolen at the party headquarters? What some party activists are saying is not good koraa oo; they are suspecting a close ally of their flag bearer to be the thief oo.

A leading member of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, Mrs. EstherAgyemang is reported to have said on Ahutor FM in Accra that there was a move to re-instate Mr. Kwabena Agyepong as General Secretary but Kwabena declined the offer on condition that Paul Afoko, Sammy Crabbe and all those who were illegally suspended must also be re-instated.

Mrs. Agyemang said, “My party has made a big mistake and Nana Addo and his people know that, but because of pride and lack of honesty they are unable to concede. It is getting more serious by the day because NPP needs these gentlemen to prosecute an effective campaign, but here we are; we have such a bad leadership that I believe are in to do business and not to redeem us from the Mahama administration…”

Chai, more wahala in the camp of the NPP is brewing and I doubt the party can survive before December 7.

I like part of the lyrics of “And The Beat Goes On” by Whispers which says that there’ll always be something new to keep the tables turning. And this brings me back to the interview OK FM granted Rev. Owusu Bempah. When asked whether he still stands by his prophesy that the NPP will win this year’s elections? Abakade, he introduced an element of doubt. The prophet said the tables are turning!

Nana Akufo-Addo will always bear the onus of destroying the Elephant Fraternity. As the beat goes on in the camp of the NPP, I will continue to do what I know best – dance to the kikikikikiki beat. In the meantime, D.J. Blay, play the music and let’s enjoy Whispers.
