NPP is a ‘careless’ political party – NPP MP

Tough talking New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Subin in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye Antwi has bemoaned what he describes as the lackadaisical attitude of the party in solving grievances among its members.

According to him, the insouciant behaviour of some national executives even when party members have lodged complaints with them is deeply worrying and doesn’t auger well for party cohesion.

Eugene Boakye Antwi who’s the former NPP UK/Ireland branch chairman in his third attempt managed to beat then incumbent MP, Issac Osei in a bitterly contested NPP Parliamentary election in 2016. Ever since the defeat, the two politicians have had a frosty relationship.

Then NPP Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo had opportunity to admonish Hon. Eugene Antwi when he paid him a visit at his Nima residence after the party primaries ahead of the 2016 December Parliamentary polls, to do all in his power to ensure that he maintains a good relationship with Hon. Osei in order to retain the seat.

“Whatever I have to do, personally, to ensure unity prevails and everyone is brought onboard in Subin, I will do. However, you (Eugene Antwi) also have a huge responsibility on your shoulders. If it means that you should go to Isaac Osei’s house early in the morning to implore with him to throw his support behind you, you should do so. Isaac Osei is a leading member of this party, so whatever you have to do to gain his support and that of his supporters, you have to do it,” Nana Addo urged.

But it seems all is still not well with the two former UK based NPP members as Eugene Boakye Antwi who’s the Deputy Minister for Works & Housing has accused Hon. Osei of trying to undermine him by holding secret meetings with delegates from all nine electoral areas in the constituency without his[Eugene’s] knowledge.

“Per the NPP constitution has been crafted, what Isaac Osei is doing amounts to holding a constituency conference which he doesn’t have the power to do so. How can he call all delegates and constituency executives to meet at one place? Even me as an MP for the area, when I want to meet them I merge two or three electoral areas together.

He added: The party is fully aware of Hon. Osei’s conduct, I‘ve reported him to John Boadu but he hasn’t done anything about it. You know the NPP is a careless party, whenever there’s an issue we’ll not confront it immediately but we’ll look on until someone is attacked or killed before we get serious.”
