Northern Region: Sagnarigu District holds ‘My First Day At School’

Officials of the Northern Regional Education Directorate have joined other dignitaries to mark this years “My First Day at school” in some selected schools in the Sagnarigu District, with the call on teachers to treat pupils with love as their own children.

Among the schools visited were, Kanvilli R/C, Kanvili Presby, Jisonayili Baidul M/A, and Zamamia primary schools.

The day which is observed on the first day of the new academic year of basic schools, was initiated by the Ministry of Education to whip up enthusiasm among pupils and encourage them to stay in school.

The day is also to encourage children of school-going age, who are not in school, to attend school to increase enrollment at the basic level.

The Regional Director of GES, Alhaji Mohammed Harun Cambodia, who spoke at separate schools, lamented that, most pupils drop out of school as a result of the bad treatment meted to them by their teachers.

Alhaji Harun Cambodia therefore advised teachers to exhibit professionalism in nurturing the pupils to encourage them attend school.

He also advised the pupils to focus on their education to enable them become good future leaders, adding that; it is only a disciplined child who can succeed in life.

The Headmistress of the Kanvilli Presby primary school, Adelaide Achulo, commended government for the gesture.

The delegation distributed some learning materials to motivate the pupils to attend school regularly.

They also inspected a newly built 3-unit classroom block at the Jisonayili Baidul D /A Junior High School.

The classroom was built by a philanthropist with support from the community and government.
