Nii Noi Nortey refuses to sign declaration form

The defeated parliamentary aspirant in the just ended primary in the Klottey Korle constituency, Nii Noi Nortey has refused to sign the Electoral Commission’s declaration forms.

The former constituency chairman walked off after the EC declared his main opponent Phillip Addison winner of the tightly contested polls.

Addison polled 396 out of the 765 votes cast to beat Nii Nortey who came close enough with 367 votes.

He did not wait to accept defeat or congratulate his opponent but just walked out from the party head quarters Joy News’ Latif Iddris reports.

Acting General Secretary and Organsier of the NPP, John Boadu said the onus now lied on Phillip Addisson to use his victory to unite the party and its supporters.

“I am happy about the conduct of the elections. I think that in all the difficulties the people have been able to select who they want on their ticket.

“Phillip Addison has the responsibility to bring everyone on board. The supporters should be quickly brought in. It is not a vindication or victory for Phillip Addison but for the party,” he added.

The New Patriotic Party’s Steering Committee ordered the re-run of the primary in the constituency after months of controversy surrounding the first primary.

Announcing the decision at the time, the acting General Secretary, Mr John Boadu, told anxious party supporters the rerun was necessary if peace was to prevail in the constituency.

One of the contestants, Samuel Nii Adjei Tawiah on Thursday withdrew from the race and gave his support to Mr Addison.

Mr Tawiah’s support together with that of his supporters seem to have worked the magic for Mr Addison.

Phillip Addison in an interview with Joy News ‘ Latif Iddris after he was declared winner said “today is the time to start building bridges and friendships that bring the party together. That starts today.”
