Nii Armah Ashitey discontinues suit against Zanetor

Embattled National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashitey, has filed an application in the High Court Registry to discontinue the suit against the his party and Klottey Korle MP nominee, Zanetor Rawlings.

Mr.Ashitey was in court challenging the eligibility of Dr. Zanetor because she was not a registered voter when she was elected.

He asked the court to declare her election null and void, an action he insisted was in the NDC’s interest after he contested and lost the primary to her.

But the Supreme Court eventually cleared Zanetor to contest after she registered when the Electoral Commission (EC) opened up for registration.

Mr. Ashitey’s lawyer, Gary Nimako, disclosed his client’s concession to Citi News saying “we have sat down, analyzed then matter and then just said let’s put everything to rest so that is the way we are going to go.”

Lawyer Nimako explained that, “yesterday we had a discussion with respect to the suit which we commenced against Zanetor Rawlings and the NDC party. We discussed the matter at length, we considered the options available and we have taken the view that we will discontinue the case against the parties at the High Court.”

“What it simply means is that there is no case pending before any court in Ghana in respect of the matter Nii Armah Ashietey complaining at the High Court,” he stated
