Nigeria’s air force mistakenly fire at refugee camp, over 50 reported dead

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has apologised for a misfired airstrike that hit a refugee camp in the north of the country on Tuesday January 17.
Buhari took to Twitter to express his regret and sympathise with the families of those who died which includes aid workers.

“I received with regret news that the Air Force, working to mop up BH (Boko Haram) insurgents, accidentally bombed a civilian community in Rann, Borno State.
I sympathize with the families of the dead, and with the injured, and the government and people of Borno State.

The Federal Government will fully support the Borno State Government in dealing with the situation and attending to the victims.”

Doctors Without Borders tweeted this photo following the airstrike

According to the humanitarian agency, Doctors Without Borders, 52 people were killed and 120 others wounded following the airstrike which it described as “a large-scale attack on vulnerable people.”
The terrorist group Boko Haram is present in north-eastern Nigeria however since President Buhari’s ascension to power in 2015, there have been significant military gains to push them back and destroyed many of their camps.
