NHIA launches “Claim It” app to make it easier for service providers to submit claims

The National Health Insurance Authority today launched an app that will drive the claims submission process of its service providers.

The app will replace the manual cumbersome paper based process that has been the cause of undue delays and standoffs between the scheme and its service providers.

The scheme is constantly hit with claims of delayed payments that threaten to mar its relationship with service providers because of the cumbersome claims submission process.

Most service providers struggle to submit their claims in time to be reimbursed for the services they offer to NHIS subscribers because of the current process.

Launching the new app, the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Nathaniel Otoo, recounted his encounter with some service providers in the Upper West Region who have to convey their claims to the Northern regional capital of Tamale.

According to Nathaniel Otoo, the current challenges with claims submission threaten the efficiency of the scheme.

“Claims management is the core of our business because whatever we do when we enroll people the intent is that when they fall ill they will be able to access healthcare services and when they do, their claims are submitted for us to vet and pay,” he explains.

He further stated that claims management allows them to ensure that whatever is paid for healthcare is justified.

Nathaniel Otoo further indicated that it was the duty of the NHIA to ensure that claims submission is not costly.

He said the app is supposed to address these challenges and allow health facilities to submit their claims easily.
