New Wa regional hospital to be ready in first quarter of January 2017

The 160-bed Regional Hospital in Wa will be handed over to the government of Ghana in first quarter of 2017.

Prior to the handing over next year, a soft commissioning of the hospital will be done this month to enable the public to access to healthcare for the mean time.

This came to light when the Administrator of Euroget De- Invest, Baba Anaba and some journalists visited the hospital to inspect the progress of work there.

Radio Ghana’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo reports that Mr. Anaba and the media were conducted round the facility by the Construction Manager, Engineer Amr Zayed and the Resident Engineer, Ahmed Abo Shamaa,

The visit equally formed part of the preparations for the soft commissioning of the hospital in about two weeks’ time.

The magnificent building which is situated in Wa off the Wa-Kaleo Road is being described by many as an icon of a health facility in the Upper West Region.

As part of the tour of the facility, Engineer Amr Zayed took the visitors through the model of the 160-bed capacity regional hospital project showing the locations of the various facilities before ushering the visiting team into the main building.

Engineers Zayed and Shamaa briefed the media on the state of affairs at the project site.

Engineer Zayed stated that the hospital among others has a 700-metre covered walkway to facilitate the movement of people from one building to another adding that the hospital has four operation rooms for all types of surgeries.

He continued that for the project to be delivered on schedule, 500 people are working at the project site on shift between 6am to midnight daily.

Engineer Shamaa told the media that the hospital has a mini market, a physiotherapy unit, two buildings for administration, a pharmacy, a parking lot for 114 vehicles among others.

The Administrator of Euroget De- Invest, Baba Anaba said Regional hospital in Wa is about 90 percent complete and it is one of the nine-hospitals’ project being undertaken by Euroget De-Invest across the country.

Euroget De-Invest is the main contractor for the project with CNQC of China being the sub-contractors.

Touching on the soft commissioning, Mr. Anaba pointed out that equipment will be installed and thereafter people can have access to medical care at the hospital by the end of November this year.

The inspection team was also taken to the stores as the last point of call to see the materials and equipment for the hospital project.
