NDC’s ‘Setting the Records Straight’ is height of propaganda – John Kuma

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team says an event held Thursday by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to counter a similar one by his party exposed the ruling party’s dearth of facts.

John Kuma said instead of engaging the public with verifiable facts about why the party should be retained in power ahead of the December elections, the NDC chose to misinform.

“Clearly what happened there [Setting the Records Straight event] at best can be described as propaganda in substance and in form,” Mr. Kuma said on news analysis programme PM Express on the Joy News channel (Multi TV), Thursday evening.

At the “Setting the records straight” press conference Thursday, Transport Minister, Fifi Kwetey said his government has had to face economic difficulties unseen under the NPP government.

Fifi Kwetey said incompetence of the NPP government was evidenced by the decision by the John Kufuor administration to declare the country a High Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) to cop assistance from the IMF and World Bank.

Although the NDC says the event is a routine program by the party in an election year and part of their political programmes, many have described it as a response to a lecture two weeks ago by NPP Vice-Presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia sought to suggest that the John Mahama-led government has failed in its first term and hence does not deserve another term.

Speaking on PM Express, John Kuma said that the ruling party’s poor efforts at the press conference deepen NPP’s conviction that the NDC cannot proffer superior arguments than Dr. Bawumia’s.

“Clearly if this is the response of the NDC then they have chosen not to respond to the economic facts as put out by Dr. Bawumia but they will do general propaganda,” he told show host Malik Abass Daabu.

This is a government without shame, John Kuma said.
