GhanaPoliticsonline can confirm that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pulled out of the ongoing bye-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, confirmed the news in an interview
An emotionally-charged Ofosu Ampofo stressed that the “NDC cannot sit on the fence and watch its members to lose their lives” because of an election.
He claims there are “several blood stains” at the polling center near the NDC’s candidate residence.
Though he stopped short of identifying members of the NDC who have been shot at, Hon Ofosu Ampofo pointed out that the victims were at their candidate’s residence to assist the party’s activities for the day.
“…we can no longer guarantee the security of our people and our polling agents…We have conferred with our candidate….We also do not believe a single life should be lost in this by-election so we have withdrawn from the process,” he stated.
Shots Fired
Meanwhile, 7 people suffered gun-shot wounds at the Bawaleshie Presbyterian school where voting was underway following an impasse over the polls earlier in the day.
Close to 90,000 voters are expected to cast their ballot in the by-election at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.
