NDC 2016 manifesto, campaign team ready – Kofi Adams

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will soon launch its manifesto for the 2016 elections, as well as its presidential campaign team.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party is currently working on the venue and launch of the manifesto. The party will also begin its vigorous campaign to win the 2016 elections by the end of June.

Giving an update on how the NDC is positioning itself to prosecute the 2016 agenda, the National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Kofi Adams, highlighted the party’s manifesto as focusing on “investing in our people that will change their lives and transform Ghana”.

He disclosed that the NDC manifesto would continue to place premium on human development and welfare, as well as infrastructure development.

The NDC 2016 manifesto, Mr Adams further disclosed, would also capture the socio-economic and political realities after 2012 and then showcase governments programmes and activities that would bring out the realities beyond 2016.

Presidential campaign team

So far, none of the 25 Electoral Commission certified registered political parties has launched its manifesto for the 2016 elections. Intriguingly, with the exception of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that has launched its presidential campaign team headed by Mr Peter Mac Manu, all the political parties, including the ruling party (NDC), are yet to do so with barely 163 days to this years’ elections. Most of the political parties are yet to organise congresses or conventions to elect their presidential candidates and nominate their vice-presidential candidates.

NDC 2012 Manifesto

Asked whether the NDC could achieve the pledges contained in the parties 2012 manifesto, Mr Adams asserted, “We have covered most part of our manifesto in 2012 and performed creditably in providing the right reforms and fundamentals needed for accelerated economic growth.”

On how the NDC is positioning itself for the 2016 polls, Mr Adams declared, “We understand our opponents will not be principled in this campaign and so we have positioned ourselves very well to respond to their mischiefs and lies.”
He said the NDC was going to focus on telling the truth to Ghanaians instead of engaging in lies and peddling of half truths to win political power.

“Our presidential candidate is very credible who is acknowledged globally; it’s clear when the world needed two people to lead the process for attaining the new goals set for bettering the world dubbed Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), it was President John Dramani Mahama and the Prime Minister of Norway who were nominated to lead the process,” Mr Adams argued.
“I do not think the world will be wrong and only Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be right,’ he stated.

Social media

On the use of the social media for political mischief, Mr Adams admitted that some politicians were taking advantage of the social media platform to cause mischief.“I think that whatever it requires the authorities to do to regulate the social media should be done so that social media does not destroy the country,” Mr Adams stated.
He said he had heard the IGP talk about a possible shutdown of the social media platforms during elections.

He, however, indicated that he was not for a total ban but for regulation.
Nevertheless, he reasoned that the security of the state was paramount and at anytime the national security deemed it fit to take measures to regulate the social media, he would not oppose the move
