National Sports College to run and award Degree and Diploma courses

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has disclosed that he is in talk with the Ministry of Education for an affiliation with the University of Education to enable the National Sports College (NSC) run and award Degree and Diploma courses.

He noted that the courses which would be introduced at the College in the near future would include Physical Education (PE), Sports medicine and coaching in other sports disciplines.

“One of my aims as the Minister of Youth and Sports is to make this College a centre of excellence and talks on making this a reality has already begun with the appropriate institutions. I will ensure that the College plays a vital role in the grooming of technical staff for the various sports disciplines” he added.

The Minister made this revelation when he paid an unannounced visit on Tuesday to the college with the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Joe Kpenge and other officials of the Sports Ministry.

The visit was to enable the officials to familiarize themselves with the work of the college and also get firsthand information on challenges being faced by them.

During his tour of the facilities at the College, the Minister lauded the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project which will see to the establishment of an ultra-modern office complex, football fields, an Olympic size swimming pool, accommodation apartments, sports hall, and multi-purpose sports courts among other facilities as a good step towards the making of NSC a centre of excellence.

On his part, the Director of the College, Mr. Erasmus Adorkor took the opportunity to appeal to the Minister to ensure that the quarterly subventions due the College are released to ensure the smooth running of the college.
